Beyond the classroom

Minnesota’s small, private colleges offer you more extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities than are found on big campuses. You have a good chance of earning a spot on the baseball or debate team, the college newspaper or concert choir, popular international programs or professional internships. At most of them, a first-year student can walk into the newspaper office and walk out with an assignment, sing in the choir without previous experience or experiment as a disk jockey at the college radio station — or even create a new organization.

Sports teams, music and theater groups, volunteer activities, campus government, faculty-directed research projects and off-campus study programs — all provide you with opportunities for leadership and for discovering how your career interests mesh with your personality and values. You learn how to establish priorities, manage your time, prepare for lifelong learning and build relationships that will form the basis for a long-lasting professional network. And, oh yeah, they’re fun, too.

Students on all campuses participate in a wide range of experiential learning and internships; seven of our colleges and universities have received national recognition for their high percentages of students who study abroad. Six of Minnesota’s private colleges rank in the nation’s top 40 baccalaureate colleges and universities in the percentage of students who study abroad.
