Career Aspirations: My desire is to become an OB/GYN. My overall goal after I graduate from Bethany is to enroll in a Physician Assistant program and one day return to my country, Peru, to apply all the skills that I have gained in the United States. My country, like many other third world countries, has many problems associated with diseases such as AIDS, cholera, and malaria, among others. America has an amazing medical system, and I feel very blessed to learn as much as I can. America has very good colleges as well, especially in Minnesota. Attending a private college like Bethany Lutheran College has allowed me to develop long-lasting friendships and experiences, many amazing educational opportunities and travels, and here I have been able to make connections with experts in my field of study.
This year I am working with Mayo Health Systems as a student observer, and each day I am more excited about the field of medicine. This is a great experience that I am enjoying very much. One of the most important things that I love most about my education in Minnesota is how challenging and interesting it is, and the fact that no matter how much I learn, there will always be so much more left. I have become passionate about studying Human Biology. Thus, biology becomes more engrossing as each successive semester comes with its new classes and challenges. It seems that each new term or concept I learn opens up a whole class of related ideas.
I enjoy camaraderie in difficult projects. I enjoy the small classroom sizes and the access to professors both in and out of the classroom. This atmosphere is absolutely wonderful for becoming very comfortable with other students and being able to push hard and excel. My experiences at Bethany Lutheran College have definitely helped me in my academic, personal, and professional development.
