Redmond attended high school in the Bahamas at St. Augustine College — a school founded by the Benedictine Monks from Saint John’s. While he was there, a representative from CSB/SJU visited and spoke to his graduating class. “Because of that, Saint John’s stuck in my mind a little more than the other colleges I looked up online,” Redmond said. Once accepted, he visited Saint John’s over Easter in 2008 and was able to shadow classes, tour both campuses, and stay with a host. “I was impressed and knew that I wanted to be here,” he said.
After his stay at Saint John’s, Redmond's first impressions of the bitter cold soon turned to heated excitement. “I like the variety in things you encounter; different seasons, different people, new activities. There’s no reason for anyone to get bored,” he said.
Since finishing his first year of college, Redmond has decided to major in chemistry with an Asian studies and music minor. “I am able to understand the way people think and how their background and personal views affect their lives. It is just an outstanding thing to experience.” Redmond is involved in intramural soccer and Symphonic band, which provided great opportunities to meet new people with different views and backgrounds.
Saint John’s offers numerous chances for Redmond to succeed. He plans to study abroad in China to continue to open his mind to new cultures. After graduating, he intends to pursue medical school to become an anesthesiologist.
