The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) is a small, four-year, private college committed to educating individuals to become professional artists and designers, leaders and effective critical thinkers. MCAD was founded in 1886 and has the highest-level of accreditation for a school of its kind. Our rigorous programs focus on studio-based and liberal arts courses. We offer BFA and MFA degrees with 14 majors in the areas of fine arts, media and design, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in the area of visual communication. All of our faculty are professional artists and designers. Our state-of-the-art facilities are available 24/7 and students have the opportunity for personal studio space and on-campus living. The teachers, facilities and community at MCAD challenge students to think, create and grow.

Certification programs: Post-Baccalaureate program and certificates in Graphic Design
Inter-campus agreements: Sophomores, juniors and seniors may earn some of their liberal arts credits needed for graduation by taking classes at Macalester College.
Independent study: Third- or fourth-year students with a GPA of at least 3.0 may design independent study projects in either liberal arts or studio areas.
Non-traditional/adult education programs: The College offers a wide variety of classes, lecture series and special events through its Continuing Studies programs.
Distance learning: MCAD offers a variety of on-line course experiences. The goal is to make distance learning accessible to the on-line art and design student. Reliable internet access is required for courses. Each course may have additional specific requirements.

College services and facilities
On-campus housing: Apartment-style housing is available for over 265 students in coeducational apartment buildings. Apartments include single, double and triple occupancy. Furnished and unfurnished apartments are available.
Technology: MCAD is a wireless laptop campus and has seven Macintosh-based computer labs. We offer full computer support services to our students. Media, Print-Paper-Book and 3D shops are equipped with the latest power tools and accessories to produce high-quality art and design work. MCAD's facilities are open 24/7.
Internships: MCAD’s internship program permits students to apply theories and techniques learned in class to positions in area organizations involving graphic design, photography, advertising, arts administration and other fields. Full-time juniors and seniors can earn up to 16 studio credits through internships.
Career services: The Career Services Office helps students organize plans for individual direction. Senior-level courses also help prepare students to make the transition from MCAD to their careers.
Counseling and guidance services: Personal and career counseling services are available to students.

Scholastic aptitude test: 21% of first-year students submitted the SAT as part of their applications. The middle 50% range of their SAT Math scores was 550-610; the middle 50% range of their SAT Verbal scores was 580-645.
American college test: 80% of first-year students presented the ACT as part of their applications. The middle 50% of enrolled students had ACT composite scores between 23 and 25.

Advanced placement credit: Advanced placement may be awarded on the basis of the student’s portfolio but the work must be at the college level.
Transfer process (deadlines and materials): Final deadline for official transcripts to be reviewed for transfer of credit is the last Friday of June for fall semester.
Transfer criteria (credits, GPA): Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or better. Liberal arts credits may be transferred from a regionally-accredited institution. In most cases portfolio of work must be presented for the transfer of studio credit.
Campus visits: Campus visits may be arranged by calling the Office of Admissions between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
