Founded in 1905, St. Catherine University serves diverse students, with a baccalaureate college for women at its heart and graduate and associate programs for women and men. St. Catherine integrates liberal arts and professional education within the Catholic tradition, emphasizing intellectual inquiry and social teaching, and challenging students to transformational leadership. Nationally recognized baccalaureate, associate, master’s and doctoral degree programs equip students with a superb education and the opportunity for internships, collaborative research projects, community-work-and-learning experiences and study-abroad programs. St. Catherine University offers many of its degree programs in both traditional and weekend formats on beautiful campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Inter-campus agreements: The Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) is a partnership with Augsburg College, the College of St. Catherine, Hamline University, Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas. The partnership allows students to register for courses at the other colleges, and collaborative majors are offered through the partnership.

Honors program: First-year or sophomores in the Day Program who have at least a 3.5 GPA are eligible to apply. The program offers special seminars to enhance learning levels and opportunities for independent scholarship. The program also requires the completion of an independently researched senior project.

Independent study: Students whose interests cross department lines are free to plan their own major program, subject to faculty approval. Students may register for independent study courses from individual departments.

Non-traditional/adult education programs: St. Catherine's Weekend College offers adult women the opportunity to earn a college degree in four years by attending classes every other weekend from early September through June. The ReEntry Adult Program (REAP) provides a variety of services to women who return to college during the day.

Distance learning: A distance learning option is available in the Master of Arts in Education program.

International study opportunities

St. Catherine University is strongly committed to helping students integrate study-abroad experiences into their educational plans. Students can choose from a wide variety of semester, January interim, yearlong and summer programs around the world. With advance planning, students in nearly any major can participate in an approved study abroad program while making normal progress toward graduation.

College services and facilities

On-campus housing: Students choose from five residence halls and two apartment buildings. Housing for married students or students with children is available in the apartment buildings.

Fitness/recreation facilities: Aimee and Patrick Butler Center for Sports and Fitness includes gymnasium, weight-training equipment, a cardiovascular workout area, a suspended jogging track, a sauna, a whirlpool and an 8-lane, 25-yard indoor swimming pool.

Technology: All residence halls and apartments are wired for cable and internet service. A laptop leasing program provides laptops, software and service on a per semester basis.

Internships: The Career Development Office offers an extensive internship program consisting of over 500 internship sites open to students in a wide range of majors.

Career services: The Career Development Office provides a computerized, interactive, career decision-making process; a career library; a microfiche center for graduate and undergraduate college catalogs; and assistance with resume writing, interviewing and preparing letters of application and credentials files.

Counseling and guidance services: The college provides a confidential service to students who want professional consultation regarding their emotional well-being. College counselors are licensed psychologists. Psychiatric consultation and treatment also are available. The counseling staff leads and sponsors workshops on a variety of mental health topics. In addition, the O'Neill Learning Center offers assistance to students who wish to enhance their writing, reading, math or study skills.

High school preparation: High school coursework recommended for applicants includes four years of English, three years of mathematics and two years each of science, foreign language, social science and other academic electives.

Advanced placement credit: Up to 32 semester credits may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree through examination and the Credit for Academically Relevant Learning (CARL) program. Students presenting scores of 3, 4 or 5 on Advanced Placement Program tests are granted credit by most departments. College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores at the 55th percentile or above are accepted for all general and selected subject exams.

Transfer criteria (credits, GPA): Transfer students who enter with fewer than 57 semester credits must complete a minimum of 64 semester credits at St. Catherine's to earn a degree. Those who enter with more than 57 semester credits must complete a minimum of 48 credits to earn a degree.

Campus visits: The Office of Admissions is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays (8:00 am to 6:00 pm on Wednesdays) and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
