Charles H. Williams Jr. works as a District Court Referee in the Family Court, Second Judicial District. He was appointed August 1, 1988, and has maintained 18 years of continuous service. Charles previously served as an assistant public defender for Ramsey County, St. Paul, for 20 years (1968-1988), and he also established a private practice for 25 years (1963-1988) throughout the greater metro area of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Charles graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1958 with a degree in English Literature and proceeded to receive his Juris Doctor from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1962. He has continued his legal education since 1965 and has been a facilitator of law and literature programs for the Supreme Court and Hennepin County Bar Association.

Charles is also a vocal musician and amateur historian of music, literature, race relations and machines of various types.
