Overview

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University are nationally recognized liberal arts colleges distinguished by a singular, undergraduate experience. This partnership gives students the opportunities of a large university while retaining the close personal attention of a premier liberal arts college. The colleges are committed to global learning and connection — a commitment that extends to experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Nearly all students (97%) complete an internship, participate in undergraduate research, study abroad, or participate in community service. The campuses are located on 3,300 acres of woods, lakes, and prairie — providing students with unique opportunities for education and recreation. Nearly all students live on-campus or in the immediate campus neighborhood.

Honors Program

The Honors Program is open to entering first-year students upon the recommendation of the admission committee and the coordinator of Honors and Undergraduate Research. Well-qualified students also may enter the Honors Program at the sophomore level by application.

Study Abroad Programs

More than half of our students participate in international study. The colleges offer 17 semester-long programs in the following locations: Australia, Austria, London, Chile, China, France, Greece-Italy, Guatemala, India, Ireland (Cork and Galway), Japan, South Africa, Spain. The colleges offer additional international trips during May Term and Summer Term.

Internships/ career services

Academic credit is granted for internships in a student's chosen field. The internship experience allows students the opportunity to apply learned skills and principles in a practical work setting. Students in many academic disciplines intern at various sites in Minnesota and throughout the country. The colleges' career planning and placement staffs offer one-to-one career counseling, courses, resume writing workshops, internship and externship assistance, access to a career resource library and career contact file, and arrangement of on-campus job interviews.

Advanced placement credit

Students who perform satisfactorily in advanced, college-level courses before entrance and who demonstrate their achievement in tests of the Advanced Placement program may have results submitted for evaluation for advanced standing, placement or credit. The colleges may also award credit for performance on tests of the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). College credits and/or advanced standing also are given to students who have satisfactorily completed courses in the International Baccalaureate program.

Transfer criteria (credits, GPA):

A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.

Financial aid information

More than 90% of the students at CSB/SJU receive some form of financial aid. The average need-based award is $19,000. We also offer a variety of scholarships ranging from $2,000 - $17,000 a year based on academic, leadership, artistic and service abilities.
