About the tour
Minnesota’s Private Colleges are committed to expanding general awareness, increasing academic readiness and clarifying the college planning process for a student population that is growing increasingly diverse in terms of culture, ethnicity and socioeconomic background.
To act on this commitment, the Minnesota Private College Council on behalf of its 17 member institutions initiated the MN Private Colleges Tour (MPCT). During the week of April 16, 2007, successful ethnic alumni will visit Twin Cities high schools to share their success stories with students who, like themselves, come from diverse cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The main goals of the Tour are to:
- Inspire students to aspire and prepare for college, and
- Encourage students to see private institutions as viable options as they make decisions about higher education.
Alumni will participate in pep rallies where they will tell their stories, answer questions, and distribute information and promotional items. The tour is being organized in partnership with schools, community leaders, service organizations and campus advocacy programs. Together, we aim to improve the educational opportunities and outcomes for ethnic students.

Current enrollment
Today, over 5,000 racial minority students are enrolled in Minnesota’s Private Colleges' undergraduate, graduate and professional schools and programs. Our schools often rank first or second in the total number of bachelor’s degrees conferred to racial minority students in Minnesota in critical skills and liberal arts majors. Our four, five and six-year BA graduation rates are the best in the state for all students — and specifically ethnic students.
