Here are bios of the writers of road trip tips for each community:
Joel Hoekstra is a Twin Cities-based writer and editor. He has edited publications for numerous organizations, including Greenspring Media Group, Village Voice Publishing, and MSP Communications, and has written hundreds of articles topics for dozens of magazines, including This Old House, Metropolis, Minnesota Monthly, Mpls.St.Paul, and Twin Cities Business. Among his past corporate and nonprofit clients are Ecolab, Thrivent, the Minnesota Orchestra, US Bank, the Science Museum of Minnesota, MacPhail Center for Music, Carleton College, Macalester College, William Mitchell College of Law and the University of Minnesota.
Mary Zimmermann is a freelance writer and marketing consultant who left the Twin Cities six years ago for the scenic awesomeness of Duluth. She has traveled extensively throughout Minnesota and the United States and enjoyed (not enough!) trips abroad. Mary likes discovering new and out-of-the-way places, while immersing herself in an area's history and culture. She has learned to strike a balance when traveling with three boys, where outdoor adventures, hotel pools, and fast food often trump museums and galleries — as well as reading every plaque at the Antietam Battlefield.
