transfer students

You may have a number of students who are interested in going to a community college before transferring to a different institution to earn their bachelor’s degrees. Did you know that 24 percent of all new students at our colleges in the fall of 2017 were transfer students? Here are a few more key facts about our transfer students:

  • 42 percent came from Minnesota State community and technical colleges, with 31 percent coming from one of the 10 in the seven-county metro area.
  • 30 percent were first-generation college students, meaning that they are the first in their family to go to college.
  • 28 percent were students of color.

Need to help a student plan but not familiar with the transfer requirements at our colleges? We’ve got that covered. Check out our Transfer Guide, which includes transfer requirements and contacts for each of our 17 colleges and universities. Or head to our transfer scholarships page for a quick rundown of requirements and available transfer scholarships.

Transfer events

For many years, our member colleges have held Transfer Days at community colleges around the state to meet with students as well as transfer staff.

This fall, we introduced Transfer Campus Visits since nothing really replaces having students set foot on campus. These visit events are held at many of our colleges twice a year — in November when community colleges are closed for Veteran’s Day and in February for President's Day.
