Private colleges rank 11th for number of employees
The 17 nonprofit colleges that are members of the Minnesota Private College Council reported 13,532 faculty and staff in a new report released this month. Reflecting employment in the previous academic year, the employment numbers put Minnesota’s Private Colleges in 11th place in Minnesota for the number of employees, between 3M and HealthPartners.
“Nonprofit private colleges have a big impact on our state, in terms of the graduates we educate who contribute to the workforce,” said Paul Cerkvenik, president, Minnesota Private College Council. “But we also have another kind of impact, as employers who contribute to the health of our communities and the state economy.”
How much the colleges spend is another way to consider their economic impact. On that front the 17 colleges spent more than $1.4 billion on different outlays, from construction projects to computer purchases to salaries. View the current report (PDF).
